High Karate is a hard rock band from Boston Massachusetts. Our original music is stoner influenced metal with a melodic but aggressive attack on vocals. Our music pays homage to our 1970's upbringing with big slabby vintage riffs and chest pounding beats. High Karate's music has been likened to a confluence of the Melvins/Queens of the Stoneage/Kyuss/Black Sabbath...with overtones of the Deftones, Royal Blood, Black Flag, Minor Threat, and the occasional quirkiness of The Descendents and Primus. Our songs are a collaborative affair, all members having a say and bringing their respective unique influences to bare on an arrangement and birth of a song. We feel this is the only way to feel truly inspired by the art you create. Bare your soul, bring your life lessons to the table, express yourself in the most unique way you can, and no faking it...We hope you hear it in our music. The members of High Karate are all veterans of the New England music scene, performing, touring, and recording throughout New England and nationally with our previously successful bands. We started this project because we wanted to write and perform original music with proven musicians, creative souls, with no egos, who needed to play good old fashioned obnoxiously loud rock n roll! High Karate is not a wedding band. We've been playing gigs around Boston and New England since August 2016, including the famous Boston Freedom Festival on the Boston Commons. Our performances are energetic, sweat filled events. We love to perform live, it's in our blood, and it shows. We try to give the folks that come out to see us 'A SHOW!' In the Fall of 2016 we recorded a 4 song EP "Sounds of Self Defense", which we've loaded to BandCamp. We've also been recording a number of new songs which we'll be releasing soon. We traditionally record at Red 13 Studios in Framingham, MA with Jim Foster (Queensryche, POD, Unearth, Nullset). Tony Reed (Mos Generator) has mastering duties on our recordings. We've been picked up by several radio stations playing independent music both online and on air. We'd like to thank Carmelita and Anthony Verrocchio from Baystate Rocks on WAAF 107.3FM in Boston, as well as New England Rock and Metal Radio, Boston Rock Radio, and The Graveyard Shift on ISX Radio for supporting High Karate and playing our music!! "Why the name High Karate?" is a question we receive quite a bit. Well, we contemplated quite a few band names when forming this group....Coming up with a unique band name is about as easy as discovering the secret to cold fusion. We were booking gigs and needed to stick something on a flyer so we quickly picked 'High Karate' for a show we were playing. We still joke amongst ourselves; "So we're going with High Karate then?" We liked "High Karate" because it is a tongue in cheek nod to cheesy 70's culture that we grew up in...hand-me-down tough skins, plaid shirts with giant collars, hot wheels, pop rocks, big wheels, station wagons with rumble seats...and when you bought your Dad a Father's Day present and had a few extra nickels you went fancy with some exotic 'Hai Karate' cologne...."High Karate" is a play on that 70's theme...there's also a great 'Hai Karate' skit from Eddie Murphy that made us laugh, so there's that... Check out the vintage Hai Karate cologne TV commercial: https://youtu.be/jtwh3nQP5Uo Eddie Murphy "Old Spice, Hai Karate, Brut" skit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImGxE8fPGe0 We hope you dig the noises we make! Thank you for visiting our site! Check out our music and come to a show!! |
